RDBMS FUNDAMENTALS
DATA
• Data are the raw, facts and figures that cannot identify an object uniquely.
• It is the plural form of the Latin word datum.
• Data are collected by systematic survey or review on a particular activity.
• It can be represented by a name, number, symbol or character, etc.
• Example:- sunil, 7, $, etc.
Types of data
• There are following types of data:-
1. Simple data
2. Composite data
3. Qualitative data
4. Quantitative data
1. Simple data:-
o A data that consist of alphanumeric characters are called as simple data.
o It contains alphabets and digits.
o Example:- 354ND071
2. Composite data:-
o A data that consist of text, audio, video, images, animation, graphics is called as composite data.
o Example:- movie, song.
3. Qualitative data:-
o The data which can be measured by human feelings but can’t be represented by any number or units are called as qualitative data.
o Example:- good, bad, love, happy, honesty, etc.
4. Quantitative data:-
o The data which can be represented by number or units but can’t be measured by human feelings are called as quantitative data.
o Example:- length, time, force, weight, etc.
INFORMATION
• Information is the processed form of data.
• When raw data are processed and arranged in a proper sequence, then it is called as information.
• It gives a meaning.
• Example:- Mark sheet of a student.
• The following are various characteristics of information:-
i. Relevance
ii. Subjectivity
iii. Accuracy
iv. Completeness
v. Timeliness
vi. Availability
